This time India will make a real splash in the Indian Ocean. After learning about that, the “tension” of the pro-Chinese President of the Maldives, Mohammad Moijju, will definitely increase. Not only that, the expulsion of Indian soldiers from Maldives through this plan of India will also get a suitable response. Apart from this, India will also be able to thwart China’s plans in the Indian Ocean.
India is taking big steps:
According to the information received in this context, it is known that the Government of India (India) has approved the plan to build two military airfields near Maldives. One of these airbases will be built at Minikoy Island in Lakshadweep, 80 km from Maldives. From where both fighter and transport aircraft services can be launched.
Airfield to be developed at Agatti Island: Also, a military facility at Agatti Island in Lakshadweep will be expanded and developed as an airfield. As a result, India’s military and civil aviation services will benefit. In this context, DefencePost quoted officials as saying that the new airfield will allow the Army to expand its surveillance area and achieve a military power boost in the area. The Indian Air Force is expected to complete the project.
Muijju’s response to anti-India move: It is pertinent to note that Maldives President Mohammad Muijju asked India to withdraw its troops as soon as he took over as the President of Maldives late last year. Not only this, China’s “Das” Mohammad Muijju started the “India Out” campaign during the election campaign. Where he considered the presence of Indian troops as a “threat” to the sovereignty of Maldives. It may be noted that the Indian troops stationed in the Maldives operated Dornier aircraft and helicopters gifted by India.
Muizhu paves the way for China: Since becoming president, Muizhu has increased rapprochement with China and reshaped defense ties. Chinese spy ships have also been allowed to stop at Maldivian ports after the formation of Muijju’s government. The move raised suspicions in international circles. There are growing fears that China may use the Maldives and Pakistan to increase its influence in the Indian Ocean. In this case, building military infrastructure near Maldives will help India keep a close eye on growing Chinese activities in the region.
